Production
In the ‘Land of Fire’, the world’s end, with a crew of 5, 2 actresses and over 40 local non-actors, ‘Olivia’ was made. On 16mm Ektachrome, with no electricity. A cabin was built from the rubble of the town’s first bakery, which burnt down.
Set partly in a slaughterhouse, workers became actors; Dario —who worked there for over 50 years— played the lead of ‘Father’.
Half the script was written over 5 years, the other half took shape on location. Final scenes were never written.
